JALALABAD， Afghanistan， March 15 (Xinhua) -- Up to 17 insurgents loyal to the Islamic State (IS) have been confirmed dead after unmanned planes attacked the militants' hideouts in Achin and Mamandari districts of eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar province early Wednesday， police said.

"Acting upon intelligence reports， the unmanned planes conducted four sorties against enemies in Achin and Mamandari districts early today， killing 17 IS rebels，" provincial police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashriqwal told reporters here.

Some of the killed militants are foreign nationals， the official said without identifying their nationalities.

Neither civilians nor security personnel has been hurt in the attacks.
